I. OVERVIEW OF VLUTE (VINH LONG UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION)
Vinh Long University of Technology Education (VLUTE) is one of the public universities of the Vietnamese education system. It is the unique central university of The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs located in Vinh Long city, the heart of Mekong delta . Nowadays, The Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs manages in terms of personnel and budget of VLUTE, while other activities related to the profession of the university are coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Training.
As soon as it was established on February 01, 1960, the university was named Vinh Long Technical School which was the first technical school in Mekong delta. After the day of national reunification in 1975, the school was renamed Cuu Long Vocational Teacher Training School and depended on the General Department of Technical Worker Training under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. In June 1980, the name of school changed to Technical Pedagogical School IV, which affirmed its position in the national education system. On July 27, 1997, the Prime Minister signed the Decision to upgrade Technical Pedagogical School IV to College of Technical Pedagogy IV (CK4). According to Decision No. 650/1998/QD-LDTB&XH signed by the Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on July 3, 1998, the school continued to be renamed Vinh Long Technical Pedagogical College and managed the General Department of Vocational Training, under the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs. November 11, 2013 was considered an important turning point of VLUTE development when the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 2152/QD-TTg to establish Vinh Long University of Technology Education based on upgrading Vinh Long Technical Pedagogical College.
VLUTE is one of the national key universities with the prestige and quality able to compare with advanced universities in Vietnam and ASEAN. With the role of an application-driven university, VLUTE is responsible for all following duties. The first important role is in training and fostering the vocational teachers and the skillful technical staff in the variety of disciplines and levels. Moreover, the University is the center for assessing vocational skills and accrediting the quality of vocational education at the national level. VLUTE is also the focal point of the scientific research, technology transfer and the international cooperation in vocational education, engineering – technology, economy – society to serve the industrialization and modernization of Vietnam. Therefore, VLUTE effectively contributes to the sustainable development of the Mekong Delta in particular and the whole country in general. In short, with core values “Knowledge – Creativity – Integration – Development”, VLUTE has no boundary between school and reality.
II. INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE FACULTY OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
- Scientific Research activities
In addition to teaching and learning activities, FIT is always interested in scientific research, which not only contributes to the general success but also improves the position and the brand of VLUTE. The activities in scientific research focus on problems increasing VLUTE educational quality. A lot of projects are applied in the teaching and learning process. Faculty members have a lot of articles published in scientific publications.
FIT has completed 10 scientific projects, published 12 international articles, 18 national articles, 21 articles in VLUTE science journal. And now, The members of the Faculty are attending 6 university-level and 01 ministerial-level projects as different roles. The highlight is that the project “Automatic Irrigation Control System” was published in Vietnam Yellow Book of Innovation 2020 (The collection of works and solutions demonstrates the scientific and technological innovation related to the variety of fields such as life, economy and society of Vietnamese).
According to the requirements and orders of customers, several devices and models designed by Faculty members are transferred to friend’s schools and businesses. In addition, The Faculty has 03 research projects winning high prizes at Tran Dai Nghia Science Innovation Contest in consecutive years, from 2017 to 2019.
In the last 5 years, students of FIT also had successes in national, regional and world arenas such as the competitions of National Skills, CMOS, Start-up, Physics Olympiad, English Olympiad, Robocon and so on. It is especially the great honor of FIT when some of the students became representatives of Vietnam at the competitions of WorldSkills Asia and International WorldSkills from 2016 to 2019. In 2016, student Hoang-Anh NGUYEN won the silver medal of Information Network Cabling competition at WorldSkills Asia held in Malaysia and became Asian representative at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 (The 44th WorldSkills Competition took place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in October 2017). Continuing the victory of Hoang-Anh NGUYEN, student Tan-Toan NGUYEN was representative of Vietnam to compete and become champion in Information Network Cabling at WorldSkills Asia in Thailand. Tan-Toan NGUYEN also competed at WorldSkills Kazan 2019 (The 45th WorldSkills Competition was held at the KAZAN EXPO International Exhibition Centre in Kazan, Russia in August 2019).
- Cooperation relationship
FIT has a close cooperation relationship with domestic and foreign partners. Based on the projects of technical and vocational education, FIT teaching staff has been not only sent to study and visit the technical and vocational education activities in advanced coutries but also attend the helpful training courses. Moreover, a lot of lecturers have been practicing in Australia, France, New Zealand and Korea.
The cooperation between FIT and universities around the world as well as between FIT and businesses is indicated in training, scientific and technological activities. FIT partners include:

- VinTech, technology development joint stock company – a subsidiary of Vingroup corporation.
- Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (Vinh Long VNPT).

- Huynh Computer Co., Ltd.
In addition, a lot of FIT members have been invited to be judges of the National Excellent Skills Competition, the National Competition of Excellent Teachers, and the National Competition of Vocational Equipment. Besides, FIT has members who are experts training for Vietnamese teams to participate in the competitions of WorldSkills Asia. Some lecturers are also invited to review scientific articles and master’s theses.
